Detailed description for this Tribute Band

Our Sammy was born on the 8th June 1951 in Birzebbugia Malta, the son of a naturally gifted opera singer. From an early age he showed great vocal ability and so was taught by his father to sing. When he was 7 he and his family moved to England. Unknown at the time, to this young boy, it would mark the beginning of a career that would span some 40 years

At the tender age of 10 his vocal talents were recognized by Harold Fielding, a leading showbiz impresario who took the young boy under his wing. When he was 12 he became the youngest singer to perform at the London Palladium in a 'Night with the Stars' alongside some major stars of the time including Des O'Connor, Alma Cogan and Sid James.

Many shows followed, and he continued to perform at the London Palladium appearing with Tommy Steele and the late Sir Harry Secombe, amongst others. At just 13 he performed with the 'Orchestra of the Royal Artillery' at the Royal Festival Hall in the presence of H.R.H the Duke of Edinburgh.

He sang 'Granada' both in English and Spanish receiving several curtain calls and standing ovations. The teenager looking out at the sea of people before him, realized that this was the place he felt most at home. A very different scene from a few years before as he looked out at a very different sea as he left Malta, a young child, who could never have imagined what life had in store for him.

The papers next day celebrated this newly discovered child prodigy, proclaiming that a new 'Mario Lanza' had been discovered. Ray, the charismatic singer was born, to entertain and thrill audiences in the UK and Europe for many decades to come with his perfect pitch, warm tones and wide vocal range. A voice once heard never forgotten, instantly recognizable. Ray started working regularly with the 'Ted Heath Orchestra' and the 'Jack Parnell Orchestra' appearing with Winifred Atwell, Rolf Harris, Mike Yarwood, Billy Fury and Karl Denver in numerous summer seasons and west end pantomimes. Ray was thrilled to perform alongside Frankie Vaughan in his only TV show in England.

Later as an adult, he formed a band aptly named 'Caruana' and toured successfully throughout Europe, appearing at numerous venues including the famous Sporting Club in Monte Carlo. Over the years Ray has given many radio and television interviews in the UK and Europe as well as memorable performances.

In 1989 He took part in 'A Song For Europe' and went on to represent the UK in Lausanne in Switzerland in the 'Eurovision Song Contest' with the song 'Why Do I Always Get It Wrong'. This song is still recognized as one of the best UK entries. Later Ray decided to put a tribute together to the late great Sammy Davis Jr. In Ray's own words 'to the greatest entertainer that ever lived' As a child Ray had been introduced to the great man himself, a meeting that he would never forget.

May 2008 took him to Las Vegas where he performed on the stage of the Imperial Theatre to great acclaim. Several agents at the show approached him, recognizing his talent, as Harold Fielding had done so many years before. As he prepares to cross yet another sea his family, friends and fans send him all good wishes. A new chapter begins....
